s                                                                                      statement  on the last conditions of  Dekerness farmers

On March 3, 2007 the Solidarity with Land Reform Farmers Committee –Egypt (p.s.c.) organized a solidarity conference with Dekerness farmers at the Lawyers Syndicates’ club in Mansoura city. The conference was attended by a number of land reform farmers in the village and others from Monufia and Daqahlia governorates along with a number of activists. The conference came upon the notification of ten Dekerness farmers by the Daqahlia governorate police of its intention to execute a court order to deliver their land (located at Esbet  Murshaq close to Dekerness) to the inheritors of Zainab El-Itribi by March 5 2007. During the conference Dr. Samir Amin, the prominent economist, talked about the farmers’ struggle allover the world and indicated to the similarities in the behaviors of the political regimes in these events. He also warned against the suspicious role of the multinational corporations who work in the production and trade of agriculture related materials (e.g., seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and machines) whose aim is to expand their markets with the assistance of the dictator regimes and their feudalist alliances, and who benefit from these practices. He pointed out to the importance of solidarity between farmers and their organization on the local, regional and international levels. In the meantime, the security forces of Daqahlia executed the forged court order (no. 2357/ 46QA) on March 5th 2007 and delivered the land to Amed Fathi El-Badrawy (the son and inheritor of Zainab el-Itrabi) despite the strong protests of the gathered male and female farmers. In the evening and upon the departure of the security police forces, the land reform farmers camped in a set-in protest on their confiscated land refusing the execution of the forged court order and the backing of the governmental Land Reform Organization.  The farmers started cultivating their land and managed to get back a previous land that was confiscated from them during the famous events of May 21, 2006. However, after these events, the police announced that it will confiscate other pieces of land on March 11, 2007 but delayed the process to another time. The farmers are still camping in a set-in on their lands up to this moment
