Dekernes court annulled the decisionto expel peasants of Mershaq village&Ashmoun court postponed the hearing of peasants samadon
1-On 27 January 2008, the court annulled the decision by the general prosecutor of Daqahliyya expelling eight peasants from Mershaq village from their land. The problem started when the heirs of Zeinab al-Atreby filed a lawsuit against ten peasants on the grounds that the peasants seized their land.
2-On 4 February 2008, Ashmoun court postponed to 25 February 2008, the hearing of the appeal filed by peasants of Samadon village against a ruling expelling those peasants from their land. The problem started when a lawyer claimed that he bought 57 feddans from an heir of a landlord (who died in 1925) in Samadon village, Ashmoun district in Menoufiyya governorate. After he managed to get a ruling to take the land, he accompanied a police force in an attempt to expel the peasants on 15 December 2007. Yet thousands of peasants demonstrated in protest and managed to prevent putting the ruling into effect. It is worthy of indicating that the State had confiscated this land in accordance with the law of agrarian reform of 1952. The land was distributed among peasants who paid its price in the form of installments over 40 years. Yet the government did not give the peasants contracts proving that they bought the land, a situation that gave the heirs of the landlords an opportunity to try to get back the land.
